HIGHLY-EXPERIENCED resource industry executive and current ExxonMobil Australia Chairman Richard Owen (pictured) has been appointed President of AREEA’s Board of Directors.
Mr Owen brings to the role more than 30 years’ experience in the hydrocarbons sector across engineering, operational and management roles.
He held senior executive positions for ExxonMobil in the United States, Europe and Asia before being named Chairman of the ExxonMobil group of companies in Australia in 2013.
AREEA Chief Executive Steve Knott welcomed the appointment and said Mr Owen was strongly positioned to lead Australia’s resource employer group as it guides and supports its members through an evolving and challenging market.
“Richard’s proven leadership qualities in the sector, combined with the expertise from the other accomplished members of our Board, means AREEA is well-placed to meet the unique and evolving workplace needs of our members across Australia’s resource industry,” Mr Knott said.
In addition to being AREEA’s President, Mr Owen is also a board member with the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPEA) and the American Chamber of Commerce in Australia.
He is a Fellow of Engineers Australia and of the Institution of Chemical Engineers, and a member of the Business Council of Australia.
AREEA’s board met last week and also welcomed the following changes.
Kaye Butler, General Manager, HR, Chevron Australia, was appointed as AREEA Vice President.
Kaye has been a member of the AREEA board since June 2015.
The board also appointed Tom Quinn, Broadspectrum, Chief Executive, Resources, as an AREEA Director.
