The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) is seeking industry feedback on a new Marine Order 18 (Measures to enchance maritime safety) and AREEA members are invited to consult on the matter before a deadline of 4 October 2013.
It is AMSA’s intention that the new Marine Order will commence on 1 January 2014.
Draft Marine Order 18 is to implement the:
- International Code on the Enhanced Programme of Inspections during Surveys of Bulk Carriers and Oil Tankers, 2011 (ESP Code) as adopted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Resolution A.1049 (27).
- Regulation 2 of chapter XI-1 of SOLAS (adopted by IMO Resolution MSC.325 (90)) providing for the implementation of the ESP Code.
One element of the re-draft is a new definition and rewriting of the Port State Control on operational requirements.
Draft Marine Order 18 is available on AMSA’s Consultation webpage.
Current Marine Order 18 (a compilation as modified by Marine Order 4) is available on the AMSA Marine Orders webpage.
