Statement by Steve Knott, chief executive
AREEA (Australian Mines and Metals Association)
Australia’s resource industry commends Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) chief executive Peter Anderson for his leadership and representation over the past six years, following today’s announcement that he will leave his position on January 10.
As the national employers association for Australia’s resource industry, AREEA is a long-standing ACCI member and has witnessed firsthand the stellar job Peter has done in representing the interests of Australia’s business community.
On the domestic stage, Peter’s leadership has placed Australian employers at the forefront of national debates on economic and taxation policy, environmental policy and in particular, workplace relations reform.
Less well known to some is his significant work on the global stage through his leadership and advocacy of employers internationally, including leading global efforts to address youth unemployment and protect fundamental freedom of association rights.
Peter has demonstrated effective engagement with a broad range of business, union and political stakeholders. He has also pursued an unwavering vision for Australia to remain a globally attractive place to employ people and do business.
The high regard in which he is universally held both domestically and internationally speaks volumes for his character and passion as a leading business advocate.
AREEA’s work with Peter also extends to his long-time collaboration with AREEA’s current executive director industry, Scott Barklamb, both as ACCI’s previous workplace policy director and as a senior adviser to the International Organisation of Employers (IOE).
On behalf of Australia’s resource employers, we thank Peter for six years of assiduously representing the interests of the business community and wish him well in future endeavours.
